A lifelong advocate for our community, I have proudly called Deltona home and previously served as a City Commissioner, where I fought for responsible growth, transparency, and putting residents first. Now, I am running to bring that same dedication to the County Council—ensuring your voice is heard on taxes, development, infrastructure, and quality of life.

I am Julio “David” Sosa, your candidate for Volusia County Council District 5, and a proud, long-time resident of Deltona since 2001. My life has been shaped by a deep passion for martial arts, family, community service, and putting residents first.
In my younger years, I competed in prestigious martial arts events around the world, building discipline, resilience, and a lifelong dedication to the sport. That passion continues today—I remain actively involved in the MMA and martial arts community as a respected consultant and instructor. In 2006, driven by my love for the discipline and a strong desire to give back, I founded Sosa Martial Arts (Deltona Goju Karate Academy) right here in Deltona. For nearly two decades, my academy has been a cornerstone for our community, teaching karate, kickboxing, MMA, grappling, and life skills to students of all ages. I take special pride in mentoring our youth, working with local elementary schools, and helping build character and confidence in the next generation.
My commitment to public service runs deep. After relocating to Volusia County, I became an active voice in local affairs and volunteer initiatives. This led me to serve as City Commissioner for Deltona’s District 6, where I worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life, promote fiscal responsibility, support responsible growth, and advocate for transparency and our residents’ needs. Even after my time on the commission, I have stayed deeply engaged—championing important legislation, assisting West Volusia families in navigating government challenges, and fighting for fair, accountable leadership.
I understand the unique issues facing Volusia County residents—everything from responsible development and infrastructure to taxes, flooding concerns, and community safety—because I’ve lived them as a small business owner, family man, and neighbor. With my son, four stepdaughters, and four cherished grandchildren at the center of my world, I’m driven to amplify your voice and deliver real solutions that make our county stronger, safer, and more prosperous for everyone.
