My name is J. David Sosa, and I’m running for Volusia County Council District 5 — but this message is for all of Volusia County.

One of my biggest priorities isn’t complicated. It doesn’t require a 100-page policy plan. It starts with one basic step: investing in our people.

Robots can write code. AI can answer questions.

But AI cannot crawl under a house and fix a busted pipe. It cannot weld steel, wire a breaker box, charge an AC unit, or rebuild an engine.

Trades are the backbone of every community — and right now, Florida is paying adults to learn one.

The Florida Department of Education just opened the AEFLA Grant Competition — funding programs that train adults in real, high-demand skills:

Plumbing

Electrical

Welding

HVAC

Automotive

This is how we strengthen Volusia County from the ground up.

When our neighbors earn trade certifications, they earn real income — the kind that turns homeownership from a dream into a reality.

That means stronger families, stronger neighborhoods, and a stronger county.
