Hurricane Season Is Here. Is Your Home Ready?
Grants Are Available RIGHT NOW.
June 1st marked the official start of hurricane season — and while we hope for the best, the smartest thing any Volusia County resident can do right now is prepare before a storm is ever on the radar.
I want to share something genuinely helpful today — no politics, just information every Volusia County Resident deserves to know about.
A NEW FREE RESOURCE FOR VOLUSIA RESIDENTS
The Personal Insurance Federation of Florida has launched FloodReadyFlorida — a free website designed specifically to help Florida residents understand their flood risk, prepare their homes, and recover from disasters.
Visit: PIFF.net
It covers:
How to assess YOUR specific flood risk
Flood insurance options and where to find coverage
Home hardening and mitigation measures
How to recover after a flood event
WHY THIS MATTERS FOR DELTONA SPECIFICALLY
While hurricane categories are based on wind speed — water is almost always the deadliest hazard. Flooding from storm surge and heavy rainfall causes far more damage than wind alone.
And flooding does not just happen at the beach side,
Deltona sits in the interior of Volusia County — surrounded by rivers, lakes, low-lying areas, and the Theresa Basin — a 35-square-mile hydrologically closed watershed covering eastern Deltona.
After Hurricanes Ian and Nicole in 2022, lake levels rose up to 3.5 feet and flooding didn’t fully recede until Spring 2023.
Nearly 22% of Deltona properties sit in a FEMA designated flood zone.
And even properties outside high-risk zones can flood from slow-moving thunderstorms and tropical systems.
Anywhere it rains — it can flood.
GRANTS ARE AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW
Here is something many residents do not know — there are state and local grant programs available TODAY to help you harden your home against storm damage.

BOTTOM LINE
The best time to prepare for a hurricane is before one is coming. The best time to apply for a hardening grant is before you need it.
Please share this with every neighbor, family member, and friend in Volusia County. This information could save a home — .
Be prepared
