Everyone is laser-focused on property tax reform right now — and for good reason.

And is Deltona, DeBary or the county of Volusia getting anything out of it

A nonpartisan watchdog just dropped a bombshell report exposing what Florida’s $114.5 billion budget really looks like — and who it’s really serving.

The 2026 Budget Report identified 621 budget items totaling

$829.7 MILLION

That bypassed transparency, competition, and public accountability.

Here’s what they found:

Nearly 2,000 local “member projects” worth $2.7 BILLION — stuffed in by legislators for political allies, not public need

$380 million in water projects bypassed the state’s own competitive grant process — for the second year in a row

Millions for parks, rodeos, cultural facilities, and agriculture projects that skipped over qualified applicants who followed the rules

Appropriations inserted at the last minute with zero public debate, zero scrutiny, zero vote

While Tallahassee insiders hand out billions in back-room deals, our residents Deltona and DeBary and across Volusia County are being told to cut budgets and

make do with less
