Special Session
The special legislative session originally scheduled for next week has been delayed.
According to a Senate memo, lawmakers will not need to return to the Capitol next week.
Instead, they should plan to convene in Tallahassee for a special session running April 28 through May 1.
While the primary focus remains congressional redistricting, the memo also indicates that lawmakers will consider “medical freedom” legislation along with the so-called “AI Bill of Rights.”
Quick note on the AI Bill of Rights:
Sponsored by Sen. Tom Leek (R-Ormond Beach) and strongly supported by Gov. Ron DeSantis, this legislation (SB 482)
aims to protect Floridians—especially children—from potential AI harms.
Key elements include requiring parental consent for minors using companion chatbots, mandating clear disclosures when you’re talking to AI instead of a human, stronger protections against deepfakes and unauthorized use of your name/image/likeness, and limits on government contracts with certain foreign AI providers.
It passed the Senate earlier this year but stalled in the House, so this special session could give it new life.
Stay tuned—I’ll keep you posted as more details emerge.
